Family or Systemic Constellation is a way of looking at the underlying issues of what is showing up in your life.
More than Ancestral healing
Family constellations comes from Bert Hellinger, who is from Germany and fought as a soldier in the last year of ww2 before becoming a priest and then travelling and living in South Africa, where he lived closely with the Zulu culture and observed how they looked at their ancestors. After 16 years, he left the priesthood and trained in family therapy, psychodrama, psychoanalysis, Gestalt therapy, primal therapy, the Tao and philosophy. Slowly, he started to develop the unique approach that we know as family constellations.
Berthold Ulsamer, a friend of Bert Hellinger, said:
”Children seldom never dare to live a happier or more fulfilling life than their parents. Unconsciously, they remain loyal to unspoken family traditions that work invisibly. Family constellations are a way of discovering underlying family bonds and forces that have been carried unconsciously over several generations.”
Family constellations can happen in a workshop or in a 1-1 both online and in person. It’s equally powerful and a bit different.
In a workshop, we would sit in a circle with a clear space in the middle. That is the field. One person is in the hot seat, seeker seat, or what you want to call it. The other people may get asked to represent, and it’s ok to say yes or no; the others are observers. All these roles are important, and everyone in the room, if they are open to it, will get insights and healing from the constellation.
We work with what is ready to be seen to create Belonging, order, and balance.
My journey with Constellations
We moved from Sweden to New Zealand in 2016, and just a month or so after we arrived in the country, I ended up at a workshop in family constellations with Tracy Cartwright. I didn’t understand what was happening, I just felt I wanted to do more. After going to workshops and having sessions online. I finally did the six-month facilitator training with Tracy in 2024. A fantastic training where we even got to do our own drum to support the transformation and healing of our clients.
I also joined the committee of ANZCI (Aotearoa New Zealand Constellations Incorporated) and support their work and organisation of the yearly family constellation intensive. (www.anzci.nz)
Family constellations have made a huge difference in my life, and I see how impactful it can be to look at our blockages and traumas from this perspective and also connect to the resources. It can help us in our everyday life as well as in business. It’s difficult to explain the work with words. My invitation is for you to experience it for yourself.
If you feel called to explore this with me, you can either book an online session or join a workshop in Kaitaia.

Do you want to explore something in your life that keeps coming up for you? Or have you wondered if that something really belongs to you or if it goes back to your ancestors? Or are you just curious and want to know more about family constellations?
In this 4 hour workshop we:
- Create a safe container to explore together
- A grounding meditation.
- Do some short exercises.
- One or two persons might get to have their own constellation, and the others get to represent and be observers. And we explore together what the field wants to show us.
- Depending on time, a finishing exercise.
- And then a check out and closing of the space.
For this workshop, set an intention for what you want from the workshop, and it might come up in an exercise, your own constellation, when representing, or observing. If you are open and ready, you will go away with insights and clarity.
NEXT WORKSHOP:
When: Sunday, 8 June, 1 pm - 5 pm.
Where: Kaitaia, Beachcomber backpackers, behind KFC
